Prom 2014!!!!

By marrying Ian, I gained 3 brothers and a sister but the youngest, Mitchell, is the one who asked me for Prom help. I loved  my prom and I think it is so wierd that Ian didn't go to his so anything that has to do with Mitchell going to prom, I was excited about.
Turns out corsages and boutonnières cost a lot so that's where my DIY expertise was called on. Here's the deal: I have no idea how to do anything that has to do with Flowers! My aunt thankfully helped us out when Ian and I got married so all I had to do was pick them and she took care of the rest!
So first thing I got were the flowers. Mitchell's date loves lilies but when I asked for them, they showed me this:
Not bueno! The lilies weren't even open! So I went with roses:
But before I took them home, I got to wait in the ridiculous Costco line!!:
I got all my supplies with a coupon so they were way cheap!
Then after a lot of google, Pinterest, and YouTube research (I called my aunt for help too) I started with the boutonnière:
In my defence, I wasn't the one going to prom so I didn't do my makeup :p
This was the first boutonnière I made but I ended up making two just in case
Then the corsage. Oh boy, the corsage! I had never met Mitchell's date except for super quick once a few months ago so I had no idea what she would like! Would she like a big corsage or a small simple one? I winged it and went with what went with my hand and prayed it would work for her!
So I finished and I just had to add a Vanessa touch!
For some reason I didn't have any rhinestones, but I did have glitter!!! I was SO tempted to add glitter everywhere but I kept it together and stuck with a few dots on the green stem that I didn't like very much.
I picked up Ian from work and we went directly to prom to take pictures and give them their flowers!
THEY LOOKED SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The flowers looked pretty good if I do say so myself!

I was SO happy (and relieved) that I pulled them off and as much as I tried to not embarrass them while taking pictures, Ian was a whole other story!

We even got a cool shot of them "using the force":

After we got these crazy kids to prom, we had a double date with Ian's parents in the Don Mills area. We went to Chipotle for dinner (best mexican food EVER!) and after walking around the shops at Don Mills, we saw Maleficent. Best Movie Ever!!! Princess Aurora is my absolute least favourite Disney Princess so I didn't think I would like this movie but it was so great!!

Remember how I made two boutonnieres? Well Ian didn't go to his prom so when we got home at midnight...

Our date in Toronto, Alberta!

Tourism Alberta took over the Toronto Harbour Front for the long weekend and I couldn't be more excited! I would LOVE to go to Calgary on vacation but since that might not happen anytime soon, they came to us and we made a date of it. We parked at City Hall and were about to walk to the Harbour but it was kinda chilly and Mr.All-Canadian was in shorts, flip flops, and a shirt so we stopped at Abercrombie for a hoodie (I was a little chilly too and wanted to warm up). After warming up and not finding a hoodie that he liked, we headed out to Harbour Front because Ian swore he wasn't cold (definitely saw him shiver a few times). Turns out Toronto, Alberta wasn't expecting a lot of people because by the time we got there (1 hour after it started) they had run out of some freebies (these really cute cowboy hats and Alberta food samples). We got to do this thing called Occulus which was a giant pair of goggles that put right in Alberta's landscape which made me want to go even more!
From there we headed right to the contest booth to enter to win a trip to Alberta for the Stampede (i hope we win!)
So I am really scared of horses and I know it wasn't a real horse but it still freaked me out so Ian stood in alone for a picture:

But then a Calgary cowboy dude came over and insisted on a picture with the both of us:
And I had a mini panic attack right after:

Since that was it for the Calgary thing, we went over to the Circus event going on for the kids on the next stage over. We made it just in time for a Canadian Hockey Circus that I really didn't want to stay for, but my Canadian hubby loves hockey so much, we stayed for the whole show!
Ian was louder than all the kids there and was more excited than them too so the performer definitely noticed him!
Ian became part of his show by giving him a hockey stick (at the same time I started moving away from the crazy grown up with the hockey stick...)
And then he got up on stage...
The trick was that the two guys lied down and the hockey guy walked over them in a handstand...
Someone was SO happy he got picked:
This was his grand finale: he balanced in his skates ontop of a hockey net while juggling flaming hockey sticks. It was really cool!
While we were at Harbour Front, we got a text from my aunt with pictures of my cousin Giovanni's graduation from medical school! So we sent him this:
My favourite place in the city and my favourite person in the world:
I get really happy when I see boats:
I could spend all day sitting at Harbour Front just watching the boats:

From Harbour Front, we stopped by the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner. I had always wanted to try it and it was SO pretty inside! Very vintage and I absolutely loved it although I spent the whole time sitting next to this super creepy photo:
We both ordered spaghetti (obviously) and I couldn't finish mine so Ian had to step in and finish both bowls of pasta
After one and a half bowls of pasta, Ian was ready for a nap :p
Our dinner came with a scoop of ice cream which was SO yummy!
I really hope we win the trip to Calgary, but this was a fun Alberta tester for us!

Our First Official Davenport Easter!!

For the first time ever, Ian and I hosted a family event! We held our first ever family Easter dinner and egg hunt and, as usual, we really didn't decide this until a week before Easter (the zombie party we did was only decided a day in advance so I guess a week was a step in the right direction). Since this was our first official Davenport event, we wanted everything to be perfect. Ok so maybe Ian didn't care as much as I did, but I'm always seeing such adorable parties on Pinterest that I wanted mine to match. We had my parents, Ian's parents and his two brothers over and my initial idea of making a pink wonderland decor wasn't going to flow with there being 5 guys and only 3 girls (one day, I will get to throw my vintage floral tea party!) so I tried really hard to tone down the pink and flowers.
The invites for both families were vintage-y:

Since I knew I would still be cooking when they arrived, I made sure there were little snacks for everyone until dinner was ready. These are coconut macaroon nests with a chocolate mini egg in the middle:

Choco Tejas de coco are SO yummy and they kind of have the egg shape so they were a go for Easter! My favourite is the coconut but I made pecans too (my dad's favourite):

Everyone had a pre-filled basket:
They had two big eggs (everyone had two more big eggs hidden around the house), mini Lindor chocolates, bunny marshmallows and I knitted everyone a little bunny to take home:

I saw this on pinterest for a little kid's party, but I thought watching grown ups play this game would be really funny!:

I love everything cutesy about this dinner, but I wanted to remind everyone (in a vintage way) of the main focus of Easter:

Each place setting had our Gordon Ramsay china that my godparents bought us for our wedding (gracias tios!!) and Royal Doulton silverware from Ian's grandpa (also from our wedding). The silver chargers were from Home Sense and the glasses were Ikea:
I normally don't do assign seating, but I had to try this idea out that I saw in a magazine!:
 Here's everyone!
Then Ian took one of me in the group:
I am so used to having bread when we have a big dinner that when I forgot to buy some at the store, I had to make some from scratch (which actually turned out great!):
The asparagus was all my mom! I hate veggies and when I told my mom my menu, she said she would take care of the veggies:
 Best. Fruit Wine. Ever. :
As much as I hate veggies, adding bacon and garlic to anything makes it yummy to me:
Oh boy, the ham! I didn't grow up eating ham, so I don't absolutely need it like I would turkey at Christmas. But when I was told someone had already bought a giant ham for Easter dinner, I was kinda bummed because I have no idea how to make it! (Thank you Google for the recipe that everyone loved!):

We also had scalloped potatoes and deviled eggs for dinner.
Then, we had to find our eggs that the Easter Bunny hid for everyone. They were all labelled with everyone's name, so it was fun watching people get excited that they found one only to see that it wasn't their egg:

Our Easter dinner was complete with an appearance from our very own Easter Bunny!:
